Physical Description (detailed condition)
Exterior:
- Attractive late-Victorian half-leather binding with gilt lettering on spine over black panels and gilt decorative tooling. Panelled spine with gilt lines. Marbled boards retain bright colours and patterning.
- Overall very good for age with only light wear: small rubbing and minor scuffs at corners and edges, light surface marks and mild fading in places. No dust jacket (as typical for these uniform series).
Interior:
- Pages evenly and lightly tanned as expected. Light foxing is present in places but the text remains clean and legible. Marbled pastedowns show some light marks.
- A small bookseller sticker for A. Brown & Sons, 26, 27, & 29 Savile Street, Hull is affixed to the front pastedown. No ownership inscriptions or pencilling.
- Minor paper defects: a few small rips at the inner edge between front free endpaper and flyleaf, a very small rip at the edge of page 292 and verso in Guy Mannering (does not affect text), and protective tissue for frontispiece of Guy Mannering shows small tears. All faults are cosmetic.
- Bindings and gatherings are tight and secure. All pages present - complete texts for both novels.
