A beautifully produced Folio Society edition of Mungo Park’s celebrated African travel narrative, presented in its original slipcase and illustrated throughout.

Historical & Bibliographic Context

Mungo Park remains one of the most important European explorers associated with West Africa during the late eighteenth century. His Travels in the Interior of Africa documents his pioneering journey into regions of the Niger River previously little known to European readers.

First published in 1799, the work became one of the great classic travel narratives of the Georgian era, combining exploration, ethnographic observation, geography, and personal survival narrative. Park’s writing profoundly shaped British understanding of West Africa during the age of exploration.

This Folio Society edition includes an introduction and epilogue by historian John Keay and is richly illustrated throughout with maps and historical imagery, making it both an attractive reading edition and a highly collectable modern press production.
