Physical / Condition Report
Exterior
- Attractive half-leather binding with gilt titles and tooling on the spine, twin black title labels, panelled spine. Marbled boards are bright and well preserved.
- Light wear: faint rubbing to leather at corners/edges, a few light surface marks and light fading consistent with age. Overall, a handsome decorative Victorian binding in very good shelf condition.
Interior
- Pages evenly toned with light foxing in places (common for age); text clean and legible. Marbled pastedowns and endpapers show some light marks.
- Small sticker for A. Brown & Sons, 26, 27 & 29 Savile Street, Hull on the front pastedown. No pen or pencil inscriptions.
- Minor defect: a very small rip at the bottom edge of page 304 (and verso) of The Fortunes of Nigel — does not affect the text. Otherwise, no missing pages.
- Binding and gatherings remain tight and secure, no loose signatures.
Plates & Illustrations
- Both engraved frontispieces and illustrated title pages present and complete, each with protective tissue.
