Every book has a story - my job is to find it, authenticate it and share it with you.
The Art of Sourcing Rare Books
Most of the volumes at Literary Treasures begin their journey in UK auctions or tucked away on dusty shelves of independent bookshops. Spotting a genuine gem takes the trained eye of an antiquarian bookseller, honed by years of handling thousands of books.
From Auction to Archive: Researching Each Title
Sourcing is only the first chapter.
As an antiquarian bookseller, I keep a growing catalogue of publishers, bindings and bibliographic notes, cross‑referencing every title with auction records, academic databases and specialist bibliographies.
For obscure authors, I even explore ancestry archives to verify life dates, ownership marks and provenance.
Why Every Page Matters
Before any book reaches the shop, I turn every single page.
This slow, careful work reveals:
* Condition clues – foxing, repairs, missing leaves
* Hidden surprises – tucked letters, marginalia, pressed flowers
* Evidence of provenance – signatures, bookplates, annotations
Meticulous page‑by‑page inspection protects both the collector and the book’s legacy.
Experience Matters in the Book Trade
Passion lit the spark, but experience keeps the fire burning. Years of cataloguing, reading trade references and learning from mentors have deepened my knowledge of old books and their markets. The result? Accurate descriptions, fair prices and informed guidance for fellow bibliophiles.
