Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Literary Treasures. Here you will find answers to some of the most common questions about ordering, delivery, book condition and returns. If you need further assistance, please contact us.

Ordering & Payment

Q: How do I place an order?

A: Browse our collection, select the book you wish to purchase and add it to your basket. Proceed to checkout to enter your delivery details and complete your payment. You will receive an order confirmation by email.

Q: What payment methods do you accept?

A: We accept the payment methods displayed at checkout, which may include major credit and debit cards and PayPal.

Q: Can I reserve a book?

A: We are unable to reserve items. Many of our books are unique or difficult to replace, so we recommend purchasing promptly to avoid disappointment.

Shipping & Delivery

Q: Do you offer free UK delivery?

A: We offer free UK delivery on qualifying orders over £150. Delivery costs and available options for other orders are displayed at checkout.

Q: Do you ship internationally?

A: Yes, we welcome international customers and ship to a range of destinations worldwide. Available destinations and shipping costs are shown at checkout. If your country is not available, please contact us at marie@literarytreasures.co.uk and we may be able to assist.

Q: How long will it take to receive my order?

A: We aim to dispatch orders within 2 working days of receiving payment. Estimated delivery times after dispatch are:

UK: Typically 2–5 working days.
International: Usually 7–21 working days, depending on the destination.

These are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery times. Postal delays, customs processing and other factors outside our control may affect delivery.

Q: Will I receive tracking information?

A: Where tracking is available, we will provide tracking information by email after dispatch.

Q: How are books packaged?

A: We take care to package each book securely using appropriate protective materials. Antiquarian and older books can be delicate, so we take particular care to protect them during transit.

Q: Do you offer combined shipping?

A: Where possible, we can combine shipping for multiple items. If you place an order for several books and believe you have paid more than necessary for delivery, please contact us. Any applicable excess shipping charge will be refunded where appropriate.

Q: Will I have to pay customs duties or import taxes?

A: International customers are responsible for any customs duties, import taxes or related charges imposed by their destination country, unless otherwise stated. These charges are outside our control and are not included in our shipping costs.

For full details, please see our Shipping Policy.

Book Condition & Descriptions

Q: How do you describe the condition of your books?

A: We provide individual condition descriptions and photographs to help you understand the condition of each book before purchasing. We describe significant wear, damage and other defects where identified. As many of our books are antiquarian, vintage or previously owned, signs of age and use should be expected. Please read the description and examine the photographs carefully before ordering.

If you have a question about a particular book or would like clarification about its condition, please contact us before purchasing.

Q: Are your books authentic?

A: We specialise in genuine antiquarian, vintage and collectible books. We describe each item to the best of our knowledge, including relevant details about its edition, publication and condition where these can be established.

Q: Are antiquarian books suitable for handling and reading?

A: This depends on the individual book. Some older books remain suitable for regular reading, while others are delicate and may require careful handling due to their age, binding or condition. Please refer to the individual listing and contact us before purchasing if you have concerns about a particular book.

Returns & Refunds

Q: Can I return a book if I change my mind?

A: If you are a UK consumer purchasing online, you generally have the right to cancel your order within 14 calendar days of receiving the book, without giving a reason. You must notify us of your cancellation within this period and return the book within 14 days of notifying us.

As antiquarian and used books can be fragile, we ask that all books are handled with particular care and that unnecessary handling is avoided. Books should be returned in the condition in which they were received, with all components present. You may be responsible for any reduction in value caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to examine the book.

For change-of-mind returns, the customer is responsible for return postage costs. Different or additional rights may apply under the consumer protection laws relevant to international purchases.

Please see our Refund Policy for full details.

Q: What should I do if my order arrives damaged or the book is not as described?

A: Please contact us as soon as possible at marie@literarytreasures.co.uk, providing photographs of the book and packaging where appropriate. We will assess the issue and deal with it in accordance with your statutory consumer rights. Where required by law, we will cover reasonable return postage costs and provide the appropriate remedy.

Q: When will I receive my refund?

A: For cancellations under the statutory 14-day right to cancel, refunds will generally be made within 14 days of receiving the returned book or, if earlier, receiving evidence that it has been sent back. Refunds are normally made using the original payment method. Other returns and remedies will be handled in accordance with applicable consumer law.

Special Requests & Enquiries

Q: Can you source a specific book or collection?

A: You are welcome to contact us with details of a particular book or collection you are looking for. Although we cannot guarantee that we will be able to locate it, we are happy to consider your enquiry.
