About the Author
Romer Wilson (Florence Roma Muir Wilson, 1891–1930) was a British novelist whose modern literary fiction explored philosophy, society and human relationships. She won the Hawthornden Prize in 1921 and produced a series of highly regarded novels before her untimely death at the age of thirty-nine.
Binding & Exterior Condition
Bound in the publisher's original quarter brown cloth with distinctive vertically striped green and yellow paper-covered boards, with gilt lettering to the spine.
The binding remains intact and structurally sound. There is honest age-related wear, including a small section of loss where the lower inner margin of the front board meets the spine, bumping to the corners, small edge tears, rubbing, a few small patches of wear and several light marks. Despite this, the binding retains its attractive original appearance and remains very presentable.
Interior Condition
The pages are lightly toned with age and retain their characteristic rough-cut fore edges, reflecting the traditional practice of opening gatherings with a paper knife.
There is a light patch of tanning to the front free endpaper. The pages are otherwise generally neat, clean and predominantly uncreased, with only the occasional very small mark that does not affect the text. Small edge tears are largely confined to the rough-cut margins and are typical of books produced in this manner.
There are remnants of pencil on the rear pastedown but no other ownership inscriptions.
The binding is firm throughout, with all pages securely attached.
All 137 pages are present and have been carefully checked.
