Special Notes & Background
This volume is part of the highly respected Foulis Press edition of Homer’s Odyssey, translated by Alexander Pope, the renowned 18th-century English poet best known for The Rape of the Lock and An Essay on Man. The Foulis Press, operated by the brothers Robert and Andrew Foulis in Glasgow, was one of the most important Scottish printing houses of the 18th century, known for its scholarly and high-quality classical publications.
This third volume forms part of Pope’s complete translation of The Odyssey, widely admired in the 18th century for its elegance and poetic form.
Value & Rarity
While this is a single volume from a multi-volume set (typically 5 vols), it remains a valuable historical and collector’s piece, especially due to its Foulis Press printing and Pope’s renowned translation.
