Condition Report
Exterior:
- Beautiful decorative binding in half-leather with gilt lettering on black spine background, panelled and tooled gilt lines.
- Marbled boards retain vibrant pattern; minor wear: light rubbing to corners/edges, small surface marks, some fading.
Interior:
- Pages lightly tanned; light foxing and minimal marks; marbled endpapers show small “A. Brown & Sons, 26, 27 & 29 Savile Street, Hull” binder’s label. No pen or pencil inscriptions.
- Predominantly uncreased; only a very small crease on a couple of pages
- Minor defects: small rip at bottom edge of pages 355-360 in Quentin Durward (text unaffected). All pages present and tightly bound; no loose pages.
Collectibility & Features
- Late-Victorian uniform edition of Scott’s Waverley Novels, highly collectible for both content and binding.
- Editor Waddell’s involvement helps date the volume and adds scholarly value.
