1944 1st Edition: THE SAD TALE OF THE GREEDY BOY By Imogen Chichester Vintage and SCARCE Hardback ILLUSTRATED Children’s Book.
With beautiful colour illustrations throughout.
This is a first edition of this rare book. Published By Collins, 48 Pall Mall, London and printed in Great Britain at the Baynard Press, London.
This is a charming and scarce book. It is a quirky story of a greedy little boy, who tries to reach the bottle of sweets on the top of the tall cupboard. Published at a period of wartime rationing, and so told a particularly important moral story to the children during this era.
This does not have the Dust Jacket.
It is in its original publisher’s pictorial paper backed boards, together with red cloth on the spine. The cover is intact and in a good condition for over 80 years old. However, there is a curvature of the boards, bumping to the corners, a little wear, more-so to the corners and the edges, several marks, and discolouration. Please see the photographs for more details.
Inside, there is very light foxing on the pastedowns and endpapers and light bubbling on the endpapers. Besides this, the pages are in an overall neat and clean, with only the occasional light or small mark, light stains, very light creases and the very occasional small crease on the pages. The pages are lightly tanned, which is consistent for a book of this age. There are just extremely small rips to the bottom edge of page 7 and overleaf, as shown on the photograph. This is minimal and there are no further rips to the pages. There is no pen or pencil written in this book. Between a few pages there are slight cracks in the gutter. Again, these are minimal, and the pages are all secure. There are no missing pages, and so all 21 pages are present.
Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description.
This measures approximately 23.4 cm by 15.4 cm and 0.6 cm wide. It weighs approximately 126 grams.
