Exterior Condition
Bound in original publisher’s red cloth boards with gilt lettering to front board and spine, plus small gilt fox illustration on the front. Boards and spine remain robust and intact. Some fading to the cloth, particularly along the spine and board edges. Bumping to the corners with small cloth splits at the corners and near the head and tail of the spine. A few light marks to cloth. Overall presents well for a working hunting reference over 90 years old.
Interior Condition
Printed advertisements to both pastedowns and endpapers. 16 pages of adverts precede the title page, with a further handful between text sections, and 41 pages at the rear. Main text pages lightly tanned, consistent with age, with only the very occasional small mark or light crease. Some page edges roughly cut from original uncut leaves – part of the book’s construction history. There are only a few very small edge tears to some pages, none affecting the text. Three fold-out maps (facing pp. 64, 128, 192) are present, with small edge splits to two at the adjoining folds, not affecting image. Binding is tight. No loose or missing pages. No pen or pencil marks. All pages accounted for:
