His family moved to Ilkeston, in Derbyshire in 1858, when he was just 7 years old. He left school at the age of 10, but despite the odds not being in his favour, became the Editor of the Ilkeston Pioneer Newspaper and went on to publish several books, including this scarce and beautiful book of his poetry. This really is a stunning book, full of wonderful poetry, to whom Edwin dedicated to A. E. M. Mundy, Esq., Lord Of The Manor Of Shipley. Edwin was modest about his talents as a poet and the preface states “The Poems in this little book are the outcome of brief period of “rest” during a busy life. It is not claimed that they possess more than the ordinary merit; but it is hoped that their perusal will give pleasure to many friends who have been kind enough to desire this publication”.
It is in an overall good condition, especially being over 130 years old. Please read the further description below for more details.

Bound in its original green, gilt cloth, over boards, with ornate decorations in gilt and gilt titles. There is also a small blind stamped emblem on the back board. Please refer to the photographs which I have provided for further details.Internally, the pages are just very lightly tanned, with slightly darker tanning to the title page, but the pages are in a very neat state with only the occasional small mark.
