It is with a beautiful half calf binding, with marbled paper to the boards and all-edge marble patterned pages. It is a neat and clean copy, which is tightly bound. 
 
Published by John W. Parker, West Strand, London in MDCCCL (1850) and printed by Savill And Edwards, Printers, Chandos Street, Covent Garden. 
 
Richard Whately (1787-1863) was an influential English philosopher, theologian, logician, and educational reformer. He was born on February 1, 1787, in London, England. Whately made significant contributions in various fields, including logic, economics, and religious philosophy. He was known for his logical and analytical approach to problem-solving and his ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and accessible manner.
 
Whately's religious philosophy was also a significant aspect of his work. He served as the Archbishop of Dublin from 1831 until his death in 1863. Throughout his tenure, he focused on social reform and education, striving to improve the living conditions of the poor and promote equal access to education. Whately believed that education should be practical and aimed at developing critical thinking skills, rather than focusing solely on rote memorisation.
 
In this collection of essays, Richard Whately explores various aspects and unique features of the Christian religion.
 
This is bound in a handsome half calf binding with blue marbled paper to the boards. The spine is panelled, with gilt tooling and gilt lettering over red and green backgrounds.  The cover is intact and robust, and in a very good condition for a book which is 175 years old. There is just light wear to the cover, which includes small patches of rubbing to the paper, small marks, some wear to the edges, corners, and spine, and light scratches. Please see the photographs which I have provided for further reference. 
 
Inside, the pages are lightly tanned and there is light foxing on the pastedowns, endpapers, and some of the preliminary pages. Besides this, the pages are in an overall very neat, and clean state for their age, and are uncreased. There is only the very occasional small mark. Most of the pages are without rips and there is just a small rip at the edge of page 192 and overleaf (see photo). This does not affect the text. On the front pastedown there is a small ‘Bookseller’ sticker pasted. However, there are no pen or pencil marks written inside this book. The pages are tightly bound. There are no missing pages and so all 240 pages are present. 
 
Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. 
 
This is a lovely example of this book. 
 
This measures approximately 22.2 cm by 14.2 cm and 2 cm wide. It weighs approximately 516 grams.
