Historical & Collectible Context
The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was first published in 1905 and is one of Beatrix Potter’s most charming and personal stories, inspired by a real washerwoman Potter knew in the Lake District. The hedgehog character, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, became one of the most iconic figures in children’s literature.
Although this is not a first edition, it is an early Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd. printing retaining the original Edwardian-style format, illustrations, and dust jacket design. Collectors particularly value these mid-century Warne issues when they survive with their jackets intact, as many were lost or discarded.
These post-war Ltd. printings are admired for their production quality, period character, and increasing scarcity in such neat, complete condition.
