This is a lovely vintage edition of The Blue Fairy Book, the first and best-known volume in Andrew Lang’s famous “Fairy Book” series. Originally published in 1889, this 1937 twenty-fifth impression includes 37 classic fairy tales from around the world, collected and retold for children, and has remained a treasured volume for generations.

Key Features:

  • 100 illustrations by H. J. Ford and G. P. Jacomb Hood, including a frontispiece and illustrated title page

  • Decorative original publisher’s blue cloth binding with blind-stamped design on the front board

  • Gilt spine with decorative illustration and titling

  • Crown octavo format, 390 pages

  • Tightly bound, with no rips, no pen or pencil, and all pages present

Condition:
This is a well-preserved copy, now nearly 90 years old. The cloth boards are intact and robust, showing only light wear: gentle bumping at the corners, slight rubbing to edges and spine ends, and a touch of discolouration to the spine. Please refer to the photographs for full details.

Inside, the pages are:

  • Very lightly tanned, with light foxing to endpapers and pastedowns

  • Predominantly clean and uncreased, with only minor marks or small creases on a few pages

  • A few page edges are roughly cut, likely due to the original uncut construction — part of the charm of older books

There are no inscriptions, no writing, and no missing pages. The binding remains tight and secure, making this a strong and attractive copy.

Dimensions:
Approximately 19 cm x 12.8 cm x 3.6 cm
Weight: Approx. 718 grams

This is a charming and collectable vintage edition of one of the most beloved fairy tale anthologies in the English language.
