1704 1st Edition: DICTIONARY OF ALL RELIGIONS Calf Leather Bound RARE Antiquarian Book MDCCIV – Ancient and Modern. WHETHER JEWISH, PAGAN, CHRISTIAN or MAHOMETAN.

This is a fascinating historical and comprehensive reference book, now 320 years old.

Printed for James Knapton, at the Crown in St. Paul’s Church-Yard in MDCCIV (1704). This is a FIRST EDITION, and a second edition appeared later, in 1723.

The thick calf leather bound boards are quite handsome and reminiscent of this period. It would be a beautiful addition for a collector or an enthusiast and an invaluable resource for scholars and researchers.

The brown and thick calf leather boards have embossed borders and there is a panelled spine. The cover is intact, but there is some wear, which is to be expected from a book of this age. This includes small patches of small loss of the leather on the boards and the edges of the spine, scratches, marks, small rips at the edges of the spine and boards and bumping to the corners. Please refer to the photographs provided for further details.

Inside, the pages are tanned and the pastedowns, title page, and the last page on the index table to the rear, have large sections ripped away (see photographs). Additionally, a few pages have small rips at the edges. There is also very occasional light fading to the text. Besides this, the pages are in an overall neat and clean state for their age, bearing in mind that this is over 320 years old, and there are just light marks and only occasional small creases to the pages. On the front pastedown and the title page there is a little pen written. There are also a few pages with pencil, more-so underlining the text. The pencil may be able to be erased should you wish. The pages are mostly tightly bound and only to the sides of the pastedowns (inner cover) are there cracks in the gutter (see photos). The pages are all secure. The pages are unpaginated lexicon in a double column (not numbered) but run in alphabetical order. There are a couple of instances where the pages are incorrectly headed with the wrong letters, but they do appear to be all present within the main text.

Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description.

This really is a historically important and rare book.

This measures approximately 19.7 cm by 12.2 cm and 2.8 cm wide. It weighs approximately 379 grams.
