This is a neat, clean and tightly bound copy of this scarce book.

Privately published by Martin Secker with permission by Angelo Ravagli and C. Montague Weekley, Executors of the Estate of Frieda Lawrence Ravagli (wife of the British novelist D.H. Lawrence).

Martin Secker was (born Percy Martin Secker Klingender) born in 1882. He was an influential British publisher and editor. He played a significant role in the early 20th-century literary scene and was responsible for producing work of D. H. Lawrence, notably the controversial novel “The Rainbow”, and so, with his signature, this really is an important book.

D. H. Lawrence, born David Herbert Lawrence on September 11, 1885, in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, was an English novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, and literary critic. His novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" (1928) caused a major scandal due to its explicit sexual content, leading to obscenity trials in the United Kingdom and the United States. The book was banned in several countries for many years. Lawrence's literary career was cut short by his untimely death from tuberculosis on March 2, 1930, at the age of 44. Despite his relatively short life, Lawrence left a lasting impact on literature, and his works continue to be studied, celebrated, and debated for their exploration of human nature, sexuality, and the complexities of relationships.

The dust jacket is unclipped, and still showing the original price, and in a good state for a 53-year-old book. There is black lettering on the front and the spine and the black emblem for the publisher, Martin Secker, on the back. It has wearing to the edges, creasing and small rips. There are also small or light marks, and a little clear tape on the inside, but overall, it has been preserved well.

The boards and spine, bound in the original publishers’ brown cloth, are intact, robust and in a very good condition for their age, with only minimal wear. On the front board there is a beautiful gilt decoration and there is gilt lettering on the spine. Please refer to the photographs which I have provided for further details.

Inside, the pages are bright, and overall clean, and neat and they are thick in consistency. There is only a small crease, and a very small rip at the bottom of page 21 and overleaf. Please see the photograph provided. The remaining pages are uncreased and without rips. As afore mentioned, this is inscribed with a signature in ink by Martin Secker, on the front free endpaper. The inscription states “Martin Secker to Martin Hamlyn”. A little on this ink has transferred to the front pastedown, but there is no further pen or pencil written inside this book. The pages are tightly bound, and there are no missing pages, so all 133 pages are present.

Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description.

This measures approximately 25.8 cm by 16.5 cm and 1.6 cm wide. It weighs approximately 474 grams.

Thank you so much for looking.
